Word Bank:

Copenhagen, city, Denmark, Hans Christian Anderson, sculpted, sculpture, flag, born, fairy tales, interesting.

The sculpture was sculpted on a rock. It was a sculpture of a mermaid. Hans Christian Anderson wrote lots of interesting fairy tales. He wrote The Little Mermaid, The Little tin soldier, Thumbelina and lots more. He was born in April 2nd 1805 and he died in 1875. He started writing fairy tales in 1835 and the first story he wrote was The Tinker Box.

The last story wrote was in 1853 called The Pea Blossom. In 2009 April the 2nd he would be 205. He made Copenhagen famous because he lived there and wrote lots of fairy tales. They built a sculpture there to remember him. So they built it in the shape of a mermaid because one of his books (The little mermaid) was about a mermaid.

This is what the flag of Copenhagen looks like.
