Long ago in the faraway land of of Lysea in Asia there lived a fierce monster called Chimera. It breathed fire and smoke from its huge nostrils and devoured anyone who dared to come near it-sheep, cattle men, women, children, and even wild beast. People were afraid to come out of there houses and their King Isobates could nether eat nor rest for worrying how to rid his land of the evil monster. For what man would be so brave to undertake so dread a task? The monster had no fewer than three heads, goat's, a lion's and a serpent's, and from its three heads there gushed forth long tongues of flame that burnt countrysides and spread destruction far and wide. The Chimer's body was like that of a dragons and its tail like that of a boa constrictor.
At this time a brave and noble young knight, Bellerphon by name, chanced to be visiting the King of that land. It was Bellerophon's fondest dream to do some brave and valiant deed, so when the king proposed that he should go out and tests his strength against the Chimera he was only too eager to prepare himself for this mighty task.
We are so very thankful
